Roche’s new Digital Centre of Excellence (DCoE) in Pune marks a significant milestone in the company’s 10-year ambition to build an insights business and advance healthcare innovation. This strategic hub is designed to harness digital transformation and technology to support Roche’s strategic goals, specifically targeting lab insights, clinical workflow optimization, clinical decision support, and patient monitoring.

The design of the DCoE follows the ethos of agile workflow, offering flexibility and a variety of settings for work, collaboration, social, and wellness activities. The project embodies the Roche brand while reflecting the context of Pune, drawing a parallel between the zoning of the city and a workplace neighborhood approach. To manage the deep floor plate, the space is subdivided into functional zones with the work cafe as the “Heart” at the center of each floor, surrounded by support spaces. This allows for an effective use of space and easy wayfinding,  while positioning all work areas along the perimeter to maximize their access to natural light.

The design follows “Our Spaces” guidelines, combining a timeless minimalist aesthetic and biophilia with elements and accents referencing local culture. This inspiration is most evident in the color palette, as well as the spatial arrangement rooted in a modern reinterpretation of the courtyard tradition.

One unique aspect of the Pune DCoE fitout is a distinct multifunctional zone located on Level 3A, across from the main building stack.  Designed to support a variety of events, host summits, community engagements, and workshops, the space is welcoming to both internal and external audiences. Separated from the main office floors, this zone utilizes a design approach rooted in hospitality to create an inviting and functional space. The environment incorporates state-of-the-art AV technology and interactive tools for brand showcasing and remote collaboration.

To support the diverse needs of the team, the office includes a variety of amenities. While the overall design language is cohesive, the atmosphere varies based on the function of each spacetype and offers a variety for users with different preferences and sensory needs. By combining enhanced materiality, technology, and flexible furniture selections, the Pune Digital Center of Excellence  is an adaptable environment that supports its occupants on every scale, from individual focused work to large community engagement.
